ORANGEBURG, SC – An SCHP Trooper crashed into a vehicle on North Road after pursuing another vehicle that ran over a pedestrian killed in an earlier crash on Wednesday, January 13, 2021.
According to WCSC, South Carolina Highway Patrol had responded to a fatal pedestrian crash on North Road, near the Walmart, around 7:20 p.m. That crash was covered in an earlier post.
While investigating the crash, a vehicle drove through the crash scene and ran over the deceased pedestrian. An SCHP activated his emergency equipment and pursued the driver. The trooper than collided with a vehicle that was entering North Road from a private driveway.
Investigations into the cause of both crashes are ongoing.
It is unknown if anyone was injured in the crash between the trooper and civilian vehicle. Police did not disclose if they identified or caught up with the hit-and-run driver.
