COLLETON COUNTY, SC – A pedestrian was hit and killed on Augusta Highway by a hit-and-run driver on Sunday evening.
On January, 24, 2021, an unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on Augusta Highway when they hit a male pedestrian walking near his home around 10 p.m., according to WCBD. They report his family heard the accident and rushed out to see the pedestrian laying in the road. A second vehicle approached and struck the man. Both vehicles fled the scene.
Police report the 41-year-old Oakman Branch man was pronounced dead at the crash scene.
That portion of Augusta Highway was closed for approximately four and a half hours while authorities investigated the crash.
South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the cause of the crash and look for the hit-and-run drivers.
