ROCK HILL, SC – Justin Valdez, 19, has been charged with reckless homicide after a multi-vehicle accident resulted in the death of a York woman Saturday evening.
According to The Herald, the three-car accident occurred around 8:30 PM on February 20th, when Valdez drove his Infiniti sedan into oncoming traffic on Celanese Road. His car struck a Chevrolet SUV, and a Nissan Pathfinder subsequently crashed into Valdez’s vehicle.
The driver of the Chevrolet SUV died after being transported to the hospital. The York County Coroner’s Office identified her as 56-year-old Teresa Hewetson. A passenger in the Chevrolet, an unidentified 61-year-old man, sustained severe injuries and remains in the hospital.
Three people in the Nissan Pathfinder were also injured, but are in stable condition.
An 18-year-old passenger in Valdez’s vehicle was seriously injured and remains in the hospital.
Valdez was treated at Piedmont Medical Center and then transported to Rock Hill Jail where he awaits his first court appearance.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Rock Hill police continue to investigate the accident.
