CHEROKEE CO., SC – All lanes on I 85 remain closed after a six-vehicle chain reaction accident Thursday night has left two people dead, reports WYFF.
According to the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office, the accident took place on I 85 near Hyatt Street at 10:22 PM on March 18th. The accident was initially caused by a tractor trailer rear-ending another tractor trailer that had slowed down for construction. The first tractor trailer then struck a Ford pickup from the side and collided with a Nissan Altima. The Ford and Nissan then crashed into two more tractor trailers as a result of the impact.
Both the first tractor trailer and the Nissan caught fire on impact of the accident, and both drivers sadly died at the scene. The driver of the Nissan has been identified as 50-year-old Sherron Alexander. The driver of the first tractor trailer has been identified as 61-year-old Gary Parks.
No other injuries have been reported, but I 85 remains closed while emergency crews work to clear the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
